Veterinary Nurse Manager
Our well established client has an exciting opportunity available for an experienced veterinary nurse to fill the role of Veterinary Nurse Manager in Leeds.
The practice is a gold-standard, busy, hospital-level veterinary practice supporting the OOH/ECC for 15 practices in the area. Our client have a large team of 39 colleagues (including 11 RVN’s. 4 SVN’s, 3VCA’s) and are solely looking for experienced, senior nurse applicants with a proven record of managing large clinical teams to hospital standard.
Full-Time Veterinary Nurse Manager
40 hrs per week (4 day week Mon-Fri) * needs to be flexible to work shifts that could potentially start at 8am, or finish at 8pm
1 weekend in 4 (Sat & Sun 9-7:30 or 8:30-7 shifts)
Working alongside existing Management Team – 2 x JVP’s, Practice Manager, Client Service Manager, 2 x Senior RVN’s.

Qualities looking for:
Experienced RVN with proven track record of managing large nursing teams. High level of clinical experience.
Well organised, multi-tasking administration skills – are a must. Prior experience with complex administration including: large-team rota management, locum management, holding regular colleague appraisals (1-to-1’s etc.), planning & running monthly nurse and clinical meetings, developing and managing checklists, protocols and RCVS hospital practice standards. Develop & maintain all aspects of Stock Management in practice.
Strong Leadership and communication skills – Being a positive, supportive and constant team leader responsible for smooth day-to-day running (and yearly growth/development) of practice. The practice’s surgical and in-patient workload can change dramatically in a day (with referral and ECC work supporting 15 branches in the area). Any candidate will need to thrive in changing environments, be clear-thinking and positive with their team communication, and ‘lead by example’, when re-organising, managing & supporting nursing teams in their daily work plans. This also includes confidence in holding 1-to-1’s with nursing colleagues who fail to meet these standards. The Nurse Manager is also involved in all aspects of client communication/complaints procedures, plus ensuring effective communication between our clients 15 partner practices in regards to their patients and client care.
High clinical standards – Candidates should thrive on ensuring ‘gold-standard’ in-patient & clinical care. ‘Matron-like’ attitude to frequently check throughout the day that all check-lists, team-briefings & communication huddles have occurred. Ensure all clinical nursing standards throughout the day (and between day and night nursing teams) are maintained at a high RCVS-hospital standard.
Experience in teaching/supporting – all RVN, SVN & VCA teams with in-house training (includes Vet-eCPD online CPD), nurse ‘journal clubs’ (for all 3 practices), managing all nurse CPD-development plans. Clinical support of both day and night nursing teams. Candidate should have existing links with nursing college’s, experience in sourcing and managing both SVN’s & clinical coaches. Developing specialist nurse clinics. Experienced clinical knowledge at hospital standard essential. Strong Leadership & colleague training skills essential.
To summarise, this role is 70-80% managerial/administrative, 20% clinical with the central focus of supporting the existing nursing team in their growth, development and maintenance of clinical standards.
